The Rooster

The rich personality, mystery and inner’s power of the Rooster always have intrigued me. Since Antiquity, the Rooster has been venerated and treated as a special domestic animal. In the oriental belief for its strong character it was considered a symbol of personality related with the human. In Africa the Rooster also was a symbol of sexuality and fertility and was usually offered as a sacrifice to the gods. The Rooster is the perfect union between the beauty and virility, it fights until the last is conquered, the rooster is the first in greet the sun and the master of the whole henhouse. The Rooster is a symbol of many artists as well and its figure had been for a long time an object of decoration.   Rooster people are very observant and most of the time, they are very accurate and precise with their observation. Perhaps, you can say that Roosters have a very keen “sixth-sense”. With Roosters, what you see is exactly what you get. There are no hidden depths to the Rooster’s character, he is neither complicated nor very profound, and rather, he is very forthright and straight forward.

The Rooster likes to be noticed and flattered. He might dress a little flashily with this in mind, but in his heart, he is completely conservative. Roosters always appear attractive and beautifully turned out. They are sociable and love to receive attention.

For all our Caribbean countries the Rooster also has a great significance because we are a product of a rich cultural and ethnic mixture.  Rooster is part of our cultural traditions and that s why I try to depict my Roosters with a particular and unique approach although in essence they are similar but different at the same time as any country of our beautiful America.
